Berowra and District Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade was formed by Hornsby Shire Council on 27th October 1943. The first brigade elections took place on the 27th of November 1943. Bill Gainsford – Captain and Stan Johns – President.

We have 47 members, 8 Juniors(including 10 female members).

On average the brigade will attend at least 1 incident a week.

Range of incidents from truck fires, multi car accidents, which in some cases have become Hazmat incidents.

Structure fire at Dural Business Park, Bobbin Head Marina, support for Brooklyn Brigade at house fires, boat fires etc. Support to NSW FR Station 75 at house fires

Section 44 declarations both in District, throughout the state and interstate (Victoria).

Community Engagement

Attendance at local school fetes (Wideview, St Bernards Berowra Public). Attendance at the Annual Apex Woodchop community event. Provide assistance to Berowra Rotary club for their Arts and Crafts show. Numerous Christmas events with Apex and Waitara Pre School. The brigade is well supported by its numerous community organisations.

Continuing property inspections and street meetings with local residents.

Presentations to local school on bushfire safety, home fire safety and promotion of the Rural Fire Service in general.


General Information
Adoption of specialist responsibilities in the area of Safe Working Roofs and more recently the adoption of Breathing Apparatus capability.

The brigade is looking to extend its station facilities by incorporating an extra parking bay.

Berowra RFB also has a strong juniors program of which the current members attended last years Australian National Fire Cadet Championships. The last time they attended the Championships they came 8th out of the 30 teams in attendance.
